Man dies after single-vehicle road crash in Cork overnight

Another man, aged in his 30s and the driver of the car, was arrested at the scene.

A MAN IN his 40s has died after a single-vehicle road crash in Kinsale, Co Cork overnight.

The incident took place shortly before 1.30am this morning in Ballynamona. The road has since been closed, with local diversions in place, pending a forensic examination later today.

Gardaí and emergency services attended the scene where the man, the passenger of the car, was deceased. The driver of the car, a man in his 30s, was arrested at the scene on suspicion of offences under the Road Traffic Act.

His body has since been removed from the scene and was sent to Cork University Hospital. A post-mortem examination will take place shortly. No other injuries were reported.

The driver of the vehicle is currently detailed at a garda station in Cork, according to a statement from An Garda Síochana today. 

Investigations into this incident are ongoing, a spokesperson said, and gardaí are appealing for any witnesses to this collision to come forward.

Any road users who may have camera footage (including dash-cam) and were travelling in the Ballynamona area between 1:15am and 1:45am are asked to come forward.
